The week-long event will feature keynote addresses from Bill Nye the Science Guy and Wired magazine co-founder Kevin Kelly.
Nye and Kelly are the first of several keynote speakers to be announced for the event. South Bend Region Economic Development says Nye will speak about the importance of science and innovation, while Kelly will speak on the intersection of faith and technology.
"Bill Nye and Kevin Kelly each bring a unique and needed perspective to the topics of innovation, science and technology," said Bryan Ritchie, vice president and associate provost for innovation at the University of Notre Dame. "Bill will entertain us and make us laugh all the while evangelizing on the acute importance of science and technology, and Kevin will discuss how technology and faith can and should intersect as well as explore the ethical implications of innovation."
IDEA Week 2019 will take place April 8-13. The dates and times of the keynote addresses from Nye and Kelly will be announced at a later date. Organizers have already announced country music star Tim McGraw will perform at next year’s event.
The Inaugural IDEA Week took place earlier this year with more than 18,000 people attending. The event is hosted by the Notre Dame, the South Bend-Elkhart region, and various community organizations and businesses. Organizers say IDEA Week "celebrates innovation, entrepreneurs and the incubation of new ideas in the South Bend-Elkhart region."
