Governor Eric Holcomb has selected S. Chandler Lighty as executive director of the Indiana Archives and Records Administration. Since February 2016, he has served as director of the Indiana Historical Bureau which recently merged with the Indiana State Library. During his time as director, Lighty led efforts to increase public interest in the state’s history. He advanced the Indiana Historical Maker Program and led other research and outreach initiatives. From 2013 to 2016, Lighty served as a project manager at the Indiana State Library where he developed the Hoosier State Chronicles, Indiana’s digital historic newspaper.  

He is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history. Lighty also earned his master of arts in origins and history of the United States from Miami University.
