Bloomington-based Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative Inc. has promoted Donna Walker to president and chief executive officer. Walker, who currently serves as chief financial officer, will begin her new role November 13.

Walker has been with Hoosier Energy since 1995. She will succeed Steve Smith, who is retiring from the organization after 25 years.

"We are pleased to promote Donna to the role of CEO and we anticipate a smooth transition," said Darin Duncan, chairman of the Hoosier Energy Board of Directors. "We are confident Donna will utilize her experience and substantial accomplishments to draw upon in leading the organization into the future."

Prior to joining Hoosier Energy, Walker served as a business assurance manager with Coopers & Lybrand LLP in Indianapolis, which later became PricewaterhouseCoopers.
