Phyllis Currie has been elected chair of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator board of directors. She is a former public utility executive, who has served on the MISO board since 2016 and replaces retiring chair Michael Curran.

Currie served as general manager of Pasadena Water and Power from 2001 to 2015. During a 30-year career with the city of Los Angeles, she held the positions of chief financial officer for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; assistant city administrative officer overseeing development of the city’s annual operating and capital budgets and director of the Los Angeles rent control program. 

Currie serves as MISO’s Audit & Finance Committee chair and is a member of the System Planning Committee and the Corporate Governance & Strategic Planning Committee.

She served on the Electricity Advisory Committee of the Department of Energy from 2015 to 2017. Currie is currently an executive consultant for Hometown Connections doing strategic planning for electric and water utilities in California. Additionally, is on the board of directors of Grid Alternatives and the Association of Women in Water, Energy and the Environment and a member of Pasadena Rotary.
