The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis says single-family building permits increased by 20 percent in April. The organization says 674 permits were issued in the nine-county region last month, up from 561 during the same month in 2017.

Six of the nine counties saw increases in permits in April with Madison and Shelby counties leading the way with 500 percent and 133 percent, respectively. The BAGI says the numbers continue to reflect a stable market.

“A stable housing market, like the one we are currently experiencing, has immensely positive social impacts on our communities,” said Steve Lains, chief executive officer of the BAGI.

The number of building permits issued has risen by double-digit percentages each month this year. Year-to-date, 2,372 permits have been issued, compared to 1,871 through the same period in 2017, an increase of 27 percent.
