Westfield Mayor Andy Cook has been tapped to provide his expertise on transportation and tourism at the national level. The U.S. Department of Transportation has nominated Cook to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure.

The committee was established in 2015 as part of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) which provided long-term surface transportation funding, according to DOT’s website. The goal of the committee is to "provide information, advice, and recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation on matters relating to the role of intermodal transportation in facilitating mobility with respect to travel and tourism activities."

"I’m honored by this nomination," Cook said Wednesday in a statement. "My background in transportation and Westfield’s dedication to the tourism industry gives me the perfect opportunity to represent a state I love so dearly."

Cook will begin his involvement with the 25-member committee later this year.
