Kids’ Voice of Indiana says the three-year grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. will support new facilities through its Children’s Law Center Program.
"With the new support of Lilly Endowment, the Kids’ Voice Children’s Law Center Program will create a Parenting Coordination Clinic for low-income families to reduce the stress of parental conflict on children and a Guardianship Clinic to assist families across Indiana in overcoming hurdles to obtaining necessary guardianships for children whose parents are not able to care for them due to incarceration or drug use," said Derelle Watson-Duvall, co-founder of Kids’ Voice of Indiana and the Children’s Law Center. "The Law Center will continue to provide resources to parents, relatives, child service professionals, and attorneys through its educational website, conversations with individual callers, and educational presentations."
The nonprofit says the grant will also support additional objectives, including:
- Update and disseminate the 2017 CHINS Deskbook, Indiana’s legal guide on defending children, and publish the 2020 Supplement to the 2017 Deskbook
- Create a Guardianship/Third Party Custody Handbook
- Update and rewrite primers and Handbooks
- Maintain and update free legal resources on issues involving children for trained volunteers, legal professionals, and the community
Kids’ Voice of Indiana says several of the initiatives made possible by the grant will result in the hiring of new staff members, though a specific number was not released. They will also create a long-term need for new and larger space for the nonprofit and the Children’s Law Center of Indiana.
