As a U.S. Department of Labor-approved apprenticeship sponsor, the school will register companies’ apprentice programs, collect on-the-job learning hours and assist with related D.O.L. audits. The Fort Wayne campus will serve as pilot site and Ivy Tech says it will launch it on other campuses in the future.
The school says program participation will lead to more apprentices enrolled at Ivy Tech. Employers benefit, Ivy Tech says, by helping develop more skilled employees and potentially decreasing turnover, boosting productivity and lowering recruitment costs.
Ivy Tech Fort Wayne Director of Apprenticeship Stephanie Hilton says "Ivy Tech has partnered with companies to provide the related technical instruction for apprenticeships for years. This was a natural fit for us."
