U.S. News & World Report has released its annual ranking of the best hospitals in the nation. The publication includes state-by-state rankings as well as specialty rankings in 16 areas, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, and orthopedics.

In the Indiana rankings, the IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis tops the list, followed by IU Health North Hospital in Carmel, and St. Mary’s Medical Center of Evansville and IU Health West Hospital in Avon, which tied for third.

University Hospital is also ranked in seven specialty areas, each of which include 50 hospitals. The hospital, which is the only Hoosier facility included in the specialty lists, is ranked in Cardiology & Heart Surgery (49th), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (22nd), Geriatrics (25th), Nephrology (19th), Neurology & Neurosurgery (30th), Pulmonology (39th), and Urology (36th).

  • IU Health University Hospital – Indianapolis
  • IU Health North Hospital – Carmel
  • St. Mary’s Medical Center of Evansville (tie, 3rd)
  • IU Health West Hospital – Avon (tie, 3rd)
  • IU Health Bloomington Hospital
  • IU Health Arnett Hospital – Lafayette (tie, 6th)
  • Hendricks Regional Health – Danville (tie, 6th)
  • Deaconess Hospital – Evansville (tie, 6th)
  • IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital – Muncie (tie, 6th)
  • St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital (tie, 10th)
  • Parkview Regional Medical Center – Fort Wayne (tie, 10th)
  • Franciscan St. Francis Health – Indianapolis (tie, 12th)
  • Community Hospital – Munster (tie, 12th)

There are no Indiana hospitals included in the "Honor Roll" of the top 20 hospitals in the country. The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota tops the list for the second consecutive year, followed by The Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
