Event Aims to Boost Small Businesses

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Economic Development Corp. is Thursday hosting an event designed to help small businesses throughout the state. The Indiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center Industry Day will help more than 200 small business leaders learn how to grow their companies through government contracts.
The event will feature speakers from major manufacturers throughout Indiana who frequently land government contracts, such as South Bend-based AM General, Columbus-based Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) and Rolls-Royce Corp. Government contracting officers from agencies including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Defense Logistics Agency will also be on hand to meet one-on-one with business leaders.
"Nearly 500,000 small businesses operate across Indiana, acting as major drivers of our growing Hoosier economy," Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger said in a news release. "As these entrepreneurs look for new ways to expand their businesses, government agencies and major manufacturers are ready to be their newest customers."
Schellinger says the Indiana PTAC Industry Day, which is in its third year, has played a big role in building relationships between government agencies and small businesses. He says the federal government alone awarded $3.9 billion in contracts to Hoosier companies in 2016.

The event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center Ballroom.
