The funding aims to increase access to high-quality, non-school hour programming for low-performing and high-poverty schools.
The nonprofits, community organizations and school districts that were chosen all provide out-of-school enrichment programs to students. Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz says supporting these organizations is essential to providing "enriching academic programming to Hoosier students."
The recipients will receive funding for up to four years, beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year. The IDOE says continued funding will be based upon annual reviews and successful implementation of the recipients’ programs.
