The Indiana State Board of Education says Vice-Chair Sarah O’Brien will step down after its August 10 board meeting. She was first appointed to the board in 2009 by Governor Mitch Daniels. O’Brien says she is leaving to care for her daughter, who is dealing with a variety of medical issues. She was reappointed to the board by Governor Mike Pence in 2013 and was elected as the board’s first vice-chair last year. O’Brien is a fourth grade teacher at River Birch Elementary School in Avon. The board did not release any details on a successor for the vice-chair position.
