The home security and safety website says its 2016 list of safest cities in Indiana was determined using FBI crime report statistics from 2014, the most recent data available.
The site said only one violent crime was reported in Ligonier during the FBI’s last reporting period, which contributed to it taking the number one spot. "As this city has grown into a thriving industrial center, it has stayed true to its roots as a close-knit railroad town. The other cities on our list reflect the same commitment to keeping residents and property safe. Fourteen of these cities are being featured for the second year in a row, and more than 50 percent of them reported zero incidents of murder or rape."
Zionsville was ranked number two on the 2016 SafeWise list. In January, Consumer Affairs ranked Zionsville number one on its list, followed by Ligonier and North Liberty.
SafeWise says it eliminated cities with fewer than 4,000 residents and those that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI. Out of the top 20 safest cities, three were new the list: St. John, Berne and Munster.
