The land is being preserved thanks to a gift from the Indiana Bicentennial Nature Trust.
The gift allowed the Central Indiana Land Trust to purchase the property and preserve the woods. The CILT says by definition, "old-growth forests include trees more than 150 years old and have been relatively undisturbed for a century."
Meltzer Woods was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1973. The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10:30.
