The honor is in recognition of the library’s "eBook Tinker Station" project.
The eBook Tinker Stations teach patrons how to select and use eReaders. It also provides assistance in searching for and downloading materials from the library’s collection of eBooks, audiobooks and digital music.
"An added benefit of the eBook Tinker Stations is their cross-generational nature," said Susan Davis, adult project specialist for the Indy Library. "Many of the assistants manning the stations are college students sharing their knowledge with older generations. Our older patrons, in turn, are telling our assistants about favorite books or applications worth exploring. It’s empowering for both parties."
The eBook Tinker Stations travel around the city and county to support at 23 Indianapolis Public Library branches. The library will receive the Library of the Future Award at the ALA President’s program June 26 in Orlando, Florida.
