Subscribe NowSouth Africa-based software development company OPENCOLLAB plans to market technology developed at Indiana University used to find campus services. The IU Research and Technology Corp. licensed the product, known as One, to OPENCOLLAB.
The program, currently being used by faculty, staff and students at every IU campus, allows users to easily search for various campus services, including courses, class registration and staff training. It uses tiles, similar to mobile apps, identified by name and category in which users can search.
The program was launched at IU in 2014. Rob Lowden, associate vice president of enterprise systems in the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology, says the previous process of searching for content was very cumbersome.
"Compared to the previous system, we have cut the average time spent by users to search and find what they want by more than 50 percent," said Lowden. "It demonstrates that interacting with this new, innovative approach is much simpler."
IU says OPENCOLLAB plans to market One as a solution for companies, institutions and municipalities to provide easy access to their services. CEO Martilene Orffer says the appeal of One was its simplicity.
"We think One is unique," said Orffer. "The app-like front end is modern and appeals to smartphone users. The Google-like search functionality allows for quick searching and fast access to endpoint functions without the need to navigate endlessly. The rating-and-feedback system makes the continuous improvement of tasks and services more fluent."
