The city says the renovation will include an expansion of the adult fitness area, including separate environments for fitness classes. There will also be a large children’s area that will be open during all center hours. The center will also feature Indiana’s third Luckey Climber for kids.
Greenwood Parks and Recreation Director Rob Taggart calls the renovation a "game changer" for the community. Hey says it will also include activity centers that incorporate education themes such as STEM, art and music.
"With the addition of a modern Community Center, Greenwood Parks & Recreation will be one the most comprehensive and diverse systems in the state," said Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers. "To be a successful city, a city appealing to both current and potential new residents and businesses, Greenwood must offer desirable amenities and a high quality of life."
The newly-renovated center is expected to open in late 2016 or early 2017, with extended operating hours. While the center is closed during the renovation, the Parks and Recreation staff says a majority of its programs and outdoor rental offerings will continue as normal.
