The support from the Indianapolis-based Lumina Foundation involves collaboration among the school and two national networks on projects including data analysis, professional development and closing achievement gaps.
As part of the five-year agreement, Maryland-based Achieving the Dream Inc. and Aspen Institute Community College Excellence Program of Washington D.C. will visit the college and create a comprehensive report. The work will focus on guiding and updating Ivy Tech’s institutional reform plans that include:
- improving student learning
- increasing workforce placement
- raising levels of credential attainment
- increasing equity by narrowing achievement gaps
- and improving transfer success
Ivy Tech President Tom Snyder says "as Indiana’s largest postsecondary institution, Ivy Tech can benefit from this partnership with Achieving the Dream and Aspen Institute. We are excited about being able to accelerate the pace of regional data training and capacity building, with the overarching goal of increasing student success and attainment, and we’re grateful to Lumina for providing the funding."
The school says the agreement will help increase its data mining, analysis and interpretation capacity. That data could be used to help identify and monitor achievement gaps and evidence-based strategies modeled after high-performing community college practices. Ivy Tech has been part of the Achieving the Dream initiative since 2009.
