The UAW Chrysler Council plans to vote on the proposal Friday in Detroit. Terms of the deal have not yet been released.
While not revealing details, the UAW says it "secured significant gains." In a release from the union, UAW President Dennis Williams said the agreement "addresses our members’ principal concerns about their jobs and their futures. We have made real gains and I look forward to a full discussion of the terms with our membership." If the council approves the agreement, it then moves to UAW membership for ratification.
A strike could have affected more than 7,000 workers at Chrysler transmission operations in Kokomo and Tipton County. Members of UAW Local 685 in Kokomo overwhelmingly rejected a previous contract offer last month.
