“The Community Foundation is extremely grateful for the support of the English-Bonter-Mitchell Foundation. We believe Riverfront Fort Wayne is an excellent opportunity to respect the history and character of our city by creating and maintaining space that will bring residents back to the rivers. This generous gift will be a huge financial boost to the riverfront development efforts,” Community Foundation Executive Director David Bennett said.
The Lilly Endowment Inc. will provide a $250,000 match to the grant, bringing the total to $750,000.
The Community Foundation is raising private dollars for the project to help with riverfront clean-up and restoration, permitting, site preparation for future development and the design and construction of a promenade.
