Fort Wayne-based Turnstone has scheduled an open house September 12 to experience its new $14 million adaptive technology sports and recreation fieldhouse. The "Turnstone of Tomorrow" project is designed to put the organization on the map as a hub for training athletes with disabilities.

The facility includes a more than 9,000 square-foot pool, fitness and wellness center and multi-purpose courts. Executives hope the center will earn National Paralympic Training Center status from the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The project was boosted by a major donation from Ron and Suzanne Plassman of Fort Wayne. The athletic center now bears their name.

The nonprofit says the facility is the fourth-largest of-its-kind in the U.S.
