RICHMOND, Ind. – The Wayne County Foundation has awarded $184,152 to thirty local organizations in support of programs or projects designed to improve the quality of life across Wayne County.
“The Foundation's competitive grantmaking cycles continue to be an effective way for us to invest in the community,” said Steve Borchers, the Foundation's executive director. “Our focus for this cycle was on a wide range of programs and initatives that serve to improve the quality of life throughout Wayne County. While there were a number of very worthy programs we were not able to fund at this time, we believe the ones we were able to support will benefit a significant number of people here in many, many ways.”
This is the complete list of grant awards approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors at its May Meeting:
-Cambridge City Main Street $3,000.00
To support the Cambridge City Lincoln Funeral Train Mural
-Center City Development Corporation $1,000.00
To support the Main Street Richmond beautification project.
-Communities In Schools of Wayne County $5,000.00
For tech and website support and to purchase a copier.
-DIPLOMAS In School Nursery for Teen Mothers $7,200.00
To cover a year's expense for two children and four teen parents at RHS.
-Festival of the Arts $6,250.00
To support the 2015 Festival of the Arts
-Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Inc. $5,000.00
To support the BackSacks and School-Based Pantry programs in Wayne County.
-Grassroots Action Resource Center $3,000.00
For Peter Kageyama to speak June 12, 2015 at Innovation Center
-Hand-in-Hand Adult Day Care of Richmond $9,655.00
To purchase new seating for the kitchen and day room.
-HELP The Animals $8,000.00
To support the window replacement project.
-Indiana University East $2,000.00
To establish a cultural trail throughout Wayne County
-Peer Information Center for Teens, Inc. $2,387.00
In support of Accountability Partners for Truant Students program
-Purdue Extension Wayne County $1,050.00
To purchase blocks and storage for children’s educational Block Parties
-Richmond Art Museum $5,000.00
To provide tuition free art classes to children 16 and under living in Wayne County.
-Richmond Civic Theatre $3,000.00
In support of The Music Man event
-Richmond Community Orchestra, Inc. $2,500.00
To purchase one Timpani for performances
-Richmond Shakespeare Festival $4,500.00
To purchase portable staging

In support of teacher training and supplies
-Wayne County 4-H Association $2,500.00
To support Arts in Agriculture during the 2015 Wayne County 4-H Fair
-Wayne County Cardinal Greenway $5,000.00
For assistance with the construction of an equipment storage building and shelter.
-Wayne County Historical Museum $2,500.00
To assist with purchase of storage shelves for paintings.
-Western Wayne Heritage, Inc. $2,100.00
To bring a cemetery restoration specialist to train proper maintenance of headstones.
-Whitewater Valley District 9 Pro Bono Commission $15,000.00
To provide free legal services to those in need.
-Williamsburg Area Community Center $15,000.00
To purchase 24 windows for second floor of building
All of the Foundation’s community grantmaking is made possible by income from unrestricted and endowed field-of-interest funds.
The Foundation also awarded $25,000 to Cope Environmental Center. This grant is offered as a 1:1 match during the community gifts phase of Cope’s $1.5 million capital campaign to build a new education center.
The next grant cycle pre-application deadline is July 17 for the Enhancing the Spirit of Community proposals. Prospective applicant organizations are encouraged to visit the Foundation’s Web site (www.waynecountyfoundation.org) or contact Lisa Bates at 962-1638 for additional information.
