A bi-partisan ethics bill is on its way to the governor's desk. The measure calls for more transparency concerning the personal and lobbying connections of legislators and establishes an office of legislative ethics. The bill was co-authored by House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-88) and Minority Leader Scott Pelath (D-9). In the Indiana Senate, it was sponsored by President Pro Tem David Long (R-16) and Minority Leader Tim Lanane (D-25).

Bosma has said the purpose of the bill is to renew public trust and instill confidence in the Indiana legislature.

Pelath says the process of crafting the legislation opens doors for future ethics discussions when needed.

The call for a bill came after an investigation into Representative Eric Turner’s role in shutting down a proposed moratorium on nursing home construction. He is part owner of Carmel-based senior care developer Mainstreet. A committee found no wrong-doing on Turner's part.
