Governor Mike Pence says he wants to see legislation on his desk by the end of the week making clear that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act would not give businesses the right to deny service to anyone. Pence says he stands by the act, but acknowledges it has caused a perception problem for the state. During a news conference today, Pence said the new language would be a clarification, but “also a fix.” Pence says he “abhors” discrimination, and says the things that have been said about Indiana in the wake of the new law have been, at times, “deeply offensive to me.”

The governor also discussed his interview over the weekend on ABC. He said his intention was to set the record straight about the bill, but adds, “I could have handled that better.”

On the Indiana House Democrats Twitter feed, the group says, “It's clear that the governor still does NOT understand the problems w/ #RFRA that are causing negative reactions nationwide.”
