The renovation of the nearly 150-year-old Delphi Opera House is slated to be complete this fall. The more than $4 million project is being supported by a number of sources, including Indiana's Stellar Communities program, venue owner Delphi Preservation Society and the Wisconsin-based Jeffris Family Foundation. DELPHI, Ind. (March 12, 2015) – After years of planning, the transformation of the Delphi Opera House is finally nearing completion.

From the time the Delphi Preservation Society first purchased two-thirds of the Opera House building in 1996, the group envisioned a restored and expanded venue repurposed as a civic center for Delphi and surrounding area. When it acquired the remaining one-third of the building in 2007, the group took another step forward in its grand plan.

Supported by several grants — including funding from the state's Stellar Communities program — the preservation group started rehabilitation work, including steel framing for an addition and reinforcement of the historic structure. Crews are now busy installing new systems, framing new walls and creating a sympathetic transition between new and old. Along the way, the group also acquired the adjacent Crosby Hotel, with plans to eventually adapt it for uses that will complement the Opera House — office, retail, or restaurant space.

The Preservation Society will continue to own the property, but a new non-profit will be responsible for the operation and management of the facility, led by executive director Sara Daly Brosman. The new civic center should be ready for its grand dedication this fall.
