Some local specialty coffee roasters are looking to capitalize on Indiana's growing local food and beverage movement. Mile Square Coffee Roastery opened a year and a half ago in downtown Indianapolis and is selling about 200 pounds of coffee per week. Owner Trace Yates says he has outgrown his current space and is shopping around for a new location. He says local roasters are supportive of each other, and believes craft coffee could grow to the size of the state's booming craft beer industry. Yates and nearby Tinker Coffee Co. co-founder Stephen Hall discussed the craft coffee trend on Inside INdiana Business Television. Hall says Tinker Coffee also offers cupping classes, which he calls “a wine tasting for coffee.” He says it allows consumers to learn where and how coffee grows, how it's roasted and try different varieties.

Both companies' coffees are sold at specialty markets such as Goose the Market in Indianapolis and Wildwood Market in Fountain Square and several specialty grocers.

Other roasters in town include Liberation Roasting Co, Bee Coffee Roasters and Quills Coffee.
