INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A search committee has been formed to identify candidates for the position of Indiana University executive vice president and chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the university announced today.
Eugene R. Tempel, founding dean and professor of philanthropic studies and higher education at the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI, will chair the 15-member search committee appointed by IU President Michael A. McRobbie. The committee includes representatives from the faculty, staff and student body at IUPUI as well as from IU, Purdue and the local community.
The new chancellor will succeed Charles R. Bantz, who is stepping down from his position effective Aug. 15, 2015, to rejoin the faculty. Bantz joined IUPUI as chancellor and IU vice president for long-range planning in 2003.
“Chancellor Bantz has been a tireless and dedicated advocate for this campus, and his leadership has placed IUPUI in an excellent position upon which to build,” McRobbie said. “I am confident the committee will recommend a number of highly qualified candidates for consideration who can keep the campus on its upward trajectory and continue to expand IUPUI’s commitment to excellence in education and research and to community engagement, which has become such a distinctive feature of IUPUI under Chancellor Bantz’s leadership.”
The committee will conduct an internal search within Indiana University and make its recommendations to McRobbie. An internal search was decided on with faculty governance to ensure that there will be no interruption in the implementation of the recently released IU and IUPUI strategic plans and especially in campus fundraising for IU’s $2.5 billion bicentennial campaign, all of which are due to be completed in the 2019-20 academic year.
The university hopes to have a new chancellor identified by the time Bantz steps down.
