A showcase of innovations in agbioscience will take place later this month at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, where three winning entrepreneur teams each will receive $25,000.
The first Velocity Demo Day, hosted by AgriNovus Indiana, is set for 3-6 p.m. on June 18. The event culminates a six-month startup accelerator in which 42 teams participated.
“Velocity is designed to accelerate development of solutions to some of the toughest challenges facing the food and agricultural economy in Indiana and around the globe,” said Mitch Frazier, who at the time of the announcement was the president and CEO of AgriNovus. He has since stepped down to later this month become president of Inside INdiana Business parent IBJ Media.
“Demo Day will spotlight entrepreneurs who have worked for months to understand the challenges facing agbioscience and developed solutions needed to build this next chapter of our economy even stronger,” Frazier said.
Velocity Demo Day will showcase presentations from many of the 42 teams that participated in the accelerator and offer insights from industry leaders and investors. To register for the free event, go to agrinovusindiana.com/velocity.
In addition to AgriNovus Indiana, a nonprofit initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership focused on growing the state’s agbioscience economy, partners in the event include the Indiana Corn Marketing Council, Indiana Soybean Alliance, Elevance Health, Beck’s Hybrids, Ag Alumni Seed and Gutwein Law.
The Velocity accelerator is the successor to two pilot innovation challenges: the Producer-Led Innovation Challenge and the HungerTech Innovation Challenge. Launched in 2020, the two programs welcomed more than 145 participating teams with each winner being accepted into other accelerators, receiving subsequent funding or going on to be acquired, the news release said.
