A banking executive with more than 30 years of experience has been hired by South Bend-based Everwise Credit Union as the lender’s first chief banking officer.
Jay Gendics fills the newly created role, which is responsible for leading member service and sales activities and overseeing the retail banking and lending lines of business.
Most recently, Gendics served as executive vice president, consumer and business banking at Premier Bank in Youngstown, Ohio.
“Jay is a proven leader with an exceptional track record of driving performance, building highly engaged teams, and elevating service experiences,” Everwise President and CEO Jason Osterhage said in a news release. “His strategic mindset and deep industry expertise make him the ideal person to move our banking operations forward as we continue to grow and serve our members in meaningful ways.”
At Premier Bank, Gendics managed the lender’s deposit portfolio and direct and indirect consumer loan portfolio and helped implement its consumer and business banking strategy, the release said.
In March, Premier Bank was acquired by Wheeling, West Virginia-based WesBanco Inc.
Prior to joining Premier Bank, Gendics held executive roles at Huntington National Bank, FirstMerit Bank and, beginning in 1994, National City Bank.
Everwise Credit Union, known as Teachers Credit Union until a 2023 rebranding, is Indiana’s largest credit union with more than $5 billion in assets, 50 branches throughout Indiana and southwest Michigan, and nearly 300,000 members.
