Indiana State University will introduce some new and revised academic programs, including a bachelor’s degree in sports communication and a teaching certificate for early-childhood education.
The course changes, as well as some adjustments in academic program and course fees, were approved Feb. 28 by the board of trustees, according to a university news release.
In addition to a bachelor of arts in sports communication, the university also will offer a minor in media production. The transition to teaching certificate in early-childhood education builds upon an existing offering.
“I’m delighted that Indiana State University is expanding opportunities for students in these critical, high-demand fields,” Christopher Olsen, provost and vice president of academic affairs, said in the news release. “Our T2T certificate in early childhood formalizes an existing program and will further help address the growing need for qualified preschool teachers with a stackable credential. Additionally, our minor in media production, and we plan to propose a major in the near future, and the B.A. in sports communication will equip students with specialized, career-ready skills in rapidly evolving industries.”
Fee adjustments include eliminating fees in some disciplines while increasing fees for master’s degree programs in speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and physician assistant studies.
The university said it reviews fee structures annually.
Founded in 1865, Indiana State University offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.
