More than 350 economic development, transportation and government leaders are set to take part in today's I-69 Regional Summit in Bloomington. Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Jeb Conrad says the expanding interstate can serve as a major business recruiting tool, since it gives companies increased access to potential customers and employees. The event will also examine funding issues and how local businesses and communities can take part in the planning stages of the corridor's construction. Inside INdiana Business Host Gerry Dick will moderate a panel at the event. Originally Posted October 8, 2014

Bloomington, Ind. — Economic development and transportation experts, government leaders and organizations along the corridor of Interstate 69 will share information on ways this infrastructure can drive economic and development opportunities at a one-day conference scheduled for Tuesday, October 21 in Bloomington, IN. The I-69 Regional Summit:

Driving Opportunity, hosted by The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, will convene a wide range of speakers from across the country and Canada to provide a comprehensive overview of this infrastructure project, its magnitude and the boundless economic opportunities every community and state have available because of it.

Expected to draw more than 300 people, the I-69 Regional Summit will connect attendees and stakeholders from different sections along the interstate's corridor and encourage discussions about shared goals and future opportunities. While bringing with it new business, jobs, safer travel and a better quality of life, I-69 bodes well for the businesses and the communities along the infrastructure's corridor.

However, the I-69 Regional Summit also hopes to educate attendees on how stakeholders can collaborate during the various planning stages of its

construction as this international trade corridor takes shape.

“As logistics and transportation expenses take a larger portion out of the overall cost of doing business, the possibility of having a straight-line highway connecting a state's business centers helps to strengthen efficiencies and economies. How communities can maximize those areas will be explored during the I-69 Regional Summit,” said Jeb Conrad, president & C.E.O. of the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce. We are excited to leverage this conference to develop a framework for planning efforts at the local, state and regional level.

The I-69 Regional Summit: Driving Opportunity will begin at 8:00 a.m. with registration, breakfast and a keynote address by Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann. Informative breakout sessions are planned, covering such topics as economic development, logistics and trade, local community planning and public private partnerships. The Summit Keynote Lunch will feature a panel with members of the I-69 Congressional Caucus will be moderated by Gerry Dick, creator and host of Inside Indiana Business. The public is invited to attend this lunch along with Summit attendees.

The cost to attend the Summit is $169 and includes a welcome reception on Monday evening, participation in the Summit and breakout sessions, and the Summit Keynote Lunch. The cost to attend only the Summit Keynote Lunch is $47. Space is also available for the Driving Opportunity Trade Show and advertising in the I-69 Regional Summit guide.
