The River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville continues to bring jobs to Indiana, but the past could come back to haunt the area. River Ridge used to be home to the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant and some want to make sure any environmental hazards the government may have left behind do not get pinned on River Ridge. Congressman Todd Young (R-9) thinks Washington can help the region continue momentum. Young tells Inside INdiana Business Host Gerry Dick it is important to remove certain regulatory barriers and he is pushing to get environmental indemnification for the commerce center. The classification means River Ridge could not be held liable for any environmental hazards the military left behind.

Thousands of jobs for companies like Amazon.com have located in River Ridge since its transformation from a military ammunition site; Young says removing legal barriers is important to continuing the region's success.

Legislation creating environmental indemnification for River Ridge was added through an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, which has passed through the House of Representatives.

The Senate has yet to bring the bill to the floor for a vote.
