Camp Atterbury is looking to non-military sources to offset the effects of the federal government's ongoing reduction of military forces. Officials are working to draw events including police, cybersecurity, emergency, drone and Army Reserve drills and training to the installation. Between May and July, Atterbury welcomed some 110,000 trainees.

Spokeswoman Jessica Cates says 160 civilian positions are expected to be cut by early next year. The Indiana National Guard facility currently employs more than 1,000 such contractors.

The latest reductions stem from the military relocating a program that prepared civilians for deployment overseas to Texas.

Over 4,000 contractors worked at Camp Atterbury three years ago.
