FRANKLIN, Ind. – Franklin College announced its enrollment statistics for the 2014-15 academic year, which includes surpassing this year’s new class and total full-time enrollment goals.
Total enrollment for this year's new class, the largest since 2008, stands at 364, while total enrollment of full-time students stands at 1,008. Notably, the academic quality of applicants has steadily increased over the last several years as well.
The college credits the strong enrollment to the outstanding efforts among the admissions and financial aid staffs and all employees who work to provide a truly personalized Franklin College experience for prospective students and their families.
“Reaching our enrollment goal is a campus-wide effort,” said Alan Hill, vice president for enrollment and marketing. “It takes the entire campus to achieve our goals. The alumni referrals, the faculty-hosted events for prospective students and their families, and the recruitment activities by our athletic coaches have all contributed to our success.”
President Jay Moseley said, “We are excited to welcome so many good students, both new and returning. The increased number of applicants tells us families are recognizing the value of a Franklin College education. Students are drawn to the College anticipating changes in their lives by a faculty and staff that are supportive, caring and motivating.”
Moseley also said the college is fiscally strong and well-positioned to handle any challenges it might face in the future. Enrollment and fundraising outcomes are flourishing, with both goals being exceeded this past year.
U.S. News and World Report released its annual college rankings this week, and Franklin College has been ranked sixth in the Midwest region in the Best Regional Colleges category.
The following is a breakdown of this year’s new class:
-New admit males: 140
-New admit females: 187
-Transfer/readmits: Males: 15; Females: 22
-19 students admitted with academic distinction
-2 valedictorians and 1 salutatorian
-328 come from 67 of the 92 counties in Indiana
-61 multicultural/international students
-Total class size: 364
Founded in 1834, Franklin College is a residential, liberal arts institution with a scenic, wooded campus located 20 minutes south of downtown Indianapolis, spanning 207 acres, including athletic fields and a 31-acre biology woodland. The college prepares students to think independently, to lead responsibly and to serve with integrity in their professions, their communities and the world. The college offers its approximately 1,000 students bachelor of arts degrees in 55 majors from 25 academic disciplines, 41 minors, 11 pre-professional programs and four cooperative programs. In 1842, the college began admitting women, becoming the first coeducational institution in Indiana and the seventh in the nation.
