INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly will host U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez in Indianapolis for a series of events with Hoosier workers, students, teachers, and employers. They will be joined by U.S. Congressman Andr? Carson.
First, Donnelly, Perez, and Carson will visit Pike High School, a recent Youth CareerConnect grantee, to see first-hand how students are receiving the skills they need for in-demand jobs in the area. Youth CareerConnect encourages America's school districts, institutions of higher education, the workforce investment system, and their partners to integrate rigorous educational standards with work experiences and skills in ways that enhance instruction and deliver real-world learning opportunities for students.
Donnelly, Perez, and Carson will then visit Walsh Construction Co. to discuss workforce development and job training with workers, management, and AFL-CIO leadership over lunch.
Lastly, Donnelly, Perez, and Carson will visit Allison Transmission for a “Donnelly Day” event where they will work alongside workers on the assembly line. “Donnelly Days” are an ongoing series of events where he works alongside Hoosiers in a variety of jobs and professions in communities across Indiana. They will highlight the successful partnership between Allison Transmission and the local workforce system in order to fill high-skilled jobs in advanced manufacturing.
Donnelly launched “Donnelly Days” in early August 2014 at Thor Industries in Elkhart, IN, where he worked on the line installing an awning and lights onto a Vegas RV. Secretary Perez has made interacting with everyday Americans a focus of his tenure as Labor Secretary. Last week, he embarked on a five day tour of the country, meeting with workers at every stop to talk about obstacles and triumphs on the path to opportunity.
