The 190-acre site in Defiance, Ohio, will include an aluminum rolling slab manufacturing plant, a scrap metal shredding and advanced sortation facility, and a dedicated logistics hub, the company said in a news release. The campus is expected to create 180 new jobs.
The metal recycling business also was considering sites in southern Michigan and northeast Indiana before settling on northwest Ohio.
“This is an outstanding site and met all key criteria for the project, including proximity to sources of scrap supply, ample power, gas, water, and other utilities, main line rail service, access to major highways, and most importantly a solid workforce environment,” CEO Danny Rifkin said in the news release.
The rolling slab manufacturing plant and scrap plant are both expected to be operational in the first half of 2027, the news release said.
MetalX is partnering with private investment firm Manna Capital Partners to build the aluminum rolling slab facility, Inside INdiana Business reported last year. The $200 million facility would anchor the $300 million recycling campus that also would include the dedicated logistics hub from New York-based Page Trucking Inc.
MetalX also operates a community recycling facility in Fort Wayne and processing facilities in Auburn and Wabash. It employs about 230 people across its entire footprint, IIB reported in April.
