The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded funding to eight Indiana-based farms and businesses through its Rural Energy for America Program. The grants, totaling nearly $1 million, are given to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements.

The Indiana recipients are primarily using their grants for the installation of new solar arrays. Two are using their funding to purchase and install new grain dryers.

The grant winners are:

  • New Holland Rossville Inc. (Rossville): $59,175 for a new solar array
  • Russell & Russell LLC (Sellersburg): $182,857 for new solar array
  • Don Hook Farms Inc. (Butler): $97,249 for new grain dryer
  • Kiesler Machine Inc. (Palmyra): $107,500 for new solar array
  • Eckhart LLC (Corydon): $160,250 for new solar array
  • Steven Nottingham (Poseyville): $281,877 for new grain dryer
  • Osborn Farms Partnership (Clarks Hill): $34,237 for new solar array
  • Mower Medic Inc., dba Sprinklers Plus (Newburgh): $9,122 for new solar array
