News Release

Kokomo, Ind. — The City of Kokomo and the International Association of Firefighters Local 396 have reached an agreement on a three-year contract.

“We appreciate the women and men of the Firefighters Local working with us to reach a mutually fair and equitable agreement, and look forward to three more years of cooperative effort and focus on serving the taxpayers,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “I would also like to thank the City’s negotiating team.”

IAFF Local 396 President Rick Daily called it a good contract negotiation, and said he was especially pleased that the firefighters union received its first pay increase in several years. The city was able to pay for the wage increase by shifting some of the current benefits, said Kathy Horton, Director of Human Resources and member of the City's bargaining team.

“Everybody's pretty pleased with what transpired,” Daily said. “We've all been doing our part over the years helping the city and helping our taxpayers. My negotiating team did an outstanding job, and I just want to applaud them for what they did, along with the city's side.”

The three-year contract runs from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017.
