The Anderson Community School board is slated to vote Tuesday on a major step in a proposal to redevelop the city's iconic Wigwam gym. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report the group will decide on transferring the title to the redevelopment commission, which would pave the way for Wigwam Sports & Entertainment LLC to take possession and begin improvements. The venue is more than 70 years old.

The publication reports WSE has lined up another undisclosed “large donation” toward fundraising efforts, which already include backing from the family of NBA players Jeff and Marquis Teague.

At Tuesday's meeting, several key details will be revealed publicly, including the dollar amount the investors will need to make the project happen.

The City of Anderson's Director of Economic Development Greg Winkler Wigwam Sports & Entertainment says Wigwam Sports and Entertainment made a well-received pitch last week to the redevelopment commission.

Winkler tells The Herald Bulletin he is confident the proper funding will be lined up before potential demolition would be triggered.

If the money is not in place by the end of the month, the city could begin tearing down the building.
