The Fort Wayne City Council has approved a measure designed to eliminate collective bargaining among city workers not involved with public safety. The Journal Gazette reports two other pieces of legislation related to union representation have been tabled indefinitely. The legislation that did pass the council is now on hold after council member John Shoaff used a procedural technique that will prevent it from having any legal power for two weeks. It also delays a vote that would override a mayoral veto until late next month.

One of the tabled ordinances would create a two-union collective bargaining system. The move which would consolidate six unions that currently represent city employees who do not work for public safety departments.

The other calls for eliminating collective bargaining among the city and nine unions, including those that represent public safety workers.
