News Release

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – On Thursday, May 22 – the 149th anniversary of South Bend's founding – officials will discuss the events planned to celebrate the city's sesquicentennial in 2015. Deputy Mayor Mark Neal, Downtown South Bend, Inc., Executive Director Aaron Perri, and South Bend/Mishawaka Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Rob DeCleene will speak at a 2 p.m. press conference at the Carriage House of the Oliver Mansion at the Center for History, 808 W. Washington Street.

“South Bend 150,” a yearlong commemoration beginning January 1, 2015, will celebrate the city's past and chart its future. A variety of artistic, service, and community-oriented events will be scheduled throughout the year to commemorate South Bend's 150th anniversary.

“We'll highlight what 150 years of hard work, leadership, determination and energy have built,” Neal says, “and we'll also look forward to an even brighter future that we can create together.”
