News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Dr. Xiang Bing, founding dean of the Beijing-based Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), will lead a full day of high-level Indiana-China business meetings on Friday, May 9 with Indianapolis business and education sector elites. The meetings will be co-hosted by the America China Society of Indiana, Open Prairie Advisors and The International Center.

The day will begin with a breakfast presentation featuring a keynote speech by Dean Xiang on China’s economic transformation. The breakfast presentation will be attended by more than 50 local business leaders, Indianapolis officials and academics.

Dean Xiang will also participate in closed-door roundtables with key CEOs and senior business leaders from Indiana’s top agriculture, medical devices and healthcare companies to discuss industry sector synergies between China and Indiana. They will also discuss potential inbound investments to the Midwest from China, outbound investment opportunities for multinationals headquartered in Indianapolis, and upcoming U.S.-China collaboration plans for business, government and education players in Indiana.

“We are looking forward to our business discussions with State representatives, senior business leaders, and CEOs from top U.S. multinationals based in Indianapolis,” said Greg Marchi, chief representative of CKGSB Americas. “There are immense economic synergies and growth opportunities between the Midwest and China, and CKGSB is excited to be able to help play a role in facilitating greater U.S.-China private-public sector collaboration in Indianapolis.”

CKGSB is a private, non-profit, independent educational institution and the first business school in China with faculty governance. The school offers innovative MBA, Finance MBA, Executive MBA, Finance EMBA, Doctor of Business Administration and Executive Education programs to both Chinese and international students. In addition to campuses in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, it has offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.

“We're very excited to welcome Dr. Xiang to the Hoosier state,” said Colin Renk, executive director of the America China Society of Indiana. “Thanks to our world-class universities and business-friendly atmosphere, our state is fast-becoming an attractive location for Chinese investment.”

In its ten years of operations, the school has trained approximately 3,000 CEOs from various Chinese companies, with notable alumni including the founder of the Alibaba Group, Jack Ma; Fu Chengyu, Chairman of Sinopec; and Wu Yajun, the fifth richest person and richest woman in China, as of 2012.

“Indiana today embraces and is ripe for foreign investment, presenting a vastly different landscape than even a few short decades ago,” said Diane Thomas, president and CEO of the International Center. “This week's blending of top academic minds from China and business elites from Indiana is indicative of the spirit of collaboration that makes and keeps Indiana competitive in the foreign investment arena.”
