News Release

INDIANAPOLIS – Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann today named former Indiana legislator Peggy Welch as her Director of Intergovernmental Relations, effective July 7. She will serve as liaison to city, town and county elected officials and be a member of the Lt. Governor’s management team.

Lt. Governor Ellspermann commented, “I am so pleased that Peggy Welch has accepted this important position in our office. I met Peggy when we served in the Legislature, and I developed a great respect for her commitment to serve the people of Indiana. In both her professional life and her numerous community activities, Peggy has been a model of servant leadership that is so important for our administration. As a legislator for 14 years, she also learned the value of maintaining communications and partnerships among all levels of government.”

Accepting the new position, Ms. Welch stated, “I thank Lt. Governor Ellspermann for this opportunity to work with local government leaders to enhance partnerships and collaboration with State government. The agencies of the Lt. Governor’s office offer many valuable programs that I am eager to help promote throughout the state.”

Peggy Welch currently is the Executive Director of the Indiana Medical Device Manufacturers Council. She previously was a registered nurse at IU Health Bloomington Hospital for 18 years. In prior government service she was the first director of the Monroe County Probation Department and was on the staff of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran. She is a graduate of Mississippi College with a degree in education and Ivy Tech Community College where she earned an associate degree in nursing science.

In 1998, Ms. Welch was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives from her Bloomington district. In the Legislature she was on the Ways and Means, Public Health, Government Reduction and State Budget Committees.

Peggy Welch is married to David Welch and they have one married son and two grandchildren.
