SPEEDWAY, Ind. – The Speedway Town Council is pleased to announce that they have approved the hiring of Ian Nicolini to be the Speedway Town Manager.
Nicolini has been Town Manager and Town Administrator in the Northwest Indiana community of Cedar Lake since 2008, and was previously their Assistant Town Manager. He has managed the largest infrastructure projects in the town’s history, has focused in economic development and redevelopment, road construction, and right of way acquisition. He also led a successful effort to pursue and receive several million dollars in grants, and helped Cedar Lake secure their first ever aa- bond rating from Standard and Poors Rating Services.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master's degrees in Public Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN., and has been an adjunct instructor at Indiana University Northwest. Ian has prior experience working in the City of Bloomington, IN Parks & Recreation Department. He also assisted the City of Louisville, reporting directly to the Mayor, with research in housing, strategic planning during pursuit of his Master's degree.

He brings excellent knowledge, expertise, passion, experience and a strong reputation to our Town.” said Speedway Town Council President, Gary Raikes. “After a comprehensive search process, including conversations with references, our entire council believes strongly that we have hired a rising star, who will wear a lot of hats, build successful teams, take an entrepreneurial approach, and will help see us through to the next phases in the remaking of our town.”
“My wife and I couldn't be more excited about moving to Speedway.” said Ian Nicolini. “It is a town with a unique and steep heritage, and it’s clearly been moving in the right direction for several years now. They have an experienced Town Council, Clerk/Treasurer, Department Leaders and a strong community volunteer organization. I’m anxious to get to work on helping serve the town, including working to attract new businesses and new families.”
Nicolini was approved during a Special Town Council Meeting on April 9th to replace Barbara Lawrence, who has been the Town Manager in Speedway since 2008. She resigned a few months ago in order to spend more time with family, and to focus on consulting opportunities. Lawrence departs on April 15th.
“Ian Nicolini is the type of person and professional we're trying to attract to come Live, Work and Play in Speedway. He has a bright future ahead of him, and I'm confident he'll help us achieve our goals,” said David Lindsey, Town Council Vice President.
The New Town Manager expects to begin his new duties by May 14th.
