Members of the House have voted to repeal the ban that has been in place for 67 years. State Fair officials believe the change could provide an initial revenue stream of $200,000. Opponents had argued alcohol sales could harm the event's family atmosphere. Executive Director Cindy Hoye made the case for beer and wine sales last month on Inside INdiana Business Television. The House voted 75-20 to allow the return of beer and alcohol sales at the annual event.
Our partners at Network Indiana/WIBC reports Pence chief of staff Bill Smith is on the Indiana State Fair Commission and has told members there has not been any indication that the governor opposes the bill.
If signed, the legislation would allow State Fair could establish a beer and wine garden featuring craft beers supplied by Hoosier brewers and wineries.
