An amended version of a bill that would allow several central Indiana counties to vote on expanded mass transit is moving forward. The measure passed the House Roads and Transportation Committee with changes, including the addition of another county to the list of communities that could take the issue to voters. It now includes Hendricks County and would allow for referendum on the issue in five others. They are: Delaware County, Hamilton County, Hancock County, Johnson County, Madison County and Marion County.

The bill moves to the House Ways and Means Committee and, if approved, could next hit the full House floor.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and the Indy Chamber have spoken in support of the measure, pointing to benefits such as job attraction and increased mobility for senior citizens.

Opponents questions the cost to taxpayers.

The bill would allow for referendum on the issue in six counties. They are: Delaware County, Hamilton County, Hancock County, Hendricks County, Johnson County, Madison County and Marion County.
