Indianapolis-based Phoenix Data Corp. has named Mike Bucchi vice president of military business development. He served more than three decades in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a vice admiral. Phoenix Data Corporation Gains Navy Vice Admiral

to Lead Military Business Development

Award-Winning Indianapolis Technology Company

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Phoenix Data Corporation announced today that Retired Navy Vice Admiral Mike Bucchi has joined the firm as Vice President of Military Business Development. In this new role, Mr. Bucchi will be responsible for increasing the firm’s technology offerings to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

During more than 33 years in the United States Navy, Vice Admiral Bucchi commanded a fighter squadron, an air wing, and a Carrier Battle Group. He participated in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Provide Comfort, in which he logged over thirty combat missions and more than one hundred combat flight hours. Ensuing tours aboard several U.S. carriers logged more than 6,000 total flight hours and 1,000-plus carrier-arrested landings. In 1994, he was assigned as the Deputy U.S. Military Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium.

Appointed the Chief of Naval Air Training and Commander, U.S. Third Fleet, in 1997, Vice Admiral Bucchi served as Director of the Navy's Sea Based Battle Lab, charged with getting new technology to the Fleet faster than the current normal acquisition system. Vice Admiral Bucchi completed his last active duty tour as Commander of the U.S. Third Fleet in May of 2003.

His many awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Combat “V,” the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Strike/Flight Awards with Combat “V,” the Humanitarian Service Medal, and numerous other commendations from naval Combat “V” and campaign and unit awards.

Transitioning from the Navy, Mr. Bucchi worked as chief operations officer, executive vice president and president of a high-tech software company. Upon its acquisition by a larger technology firm, Mr. Bucchi led its Navy Business unit in southern California. Most recently, he served as executive technical director for a technology firm based at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, with a focus on helping the Naval unit grow strategically.

About his new role with Phoenix Data Corporation, Mr. Bucchi states, “I am excited to lend the company’s technical expertise to the U.S. Department of Defense and give our war fighters even greater technological advantages. Phoenix’s application of swarm intelligence in warfighting is absolutely a game-changer and provides our military with increased capabilities—from strategic missions and special operations’ support to advancing electronic warfare and unmanned systems.”

Carol Curran, founder and CEO of Phoenix Data Corporation, believes Mr. Bucchi's addition will enhance the firm's work as an innovative technology solutions provider to the military. “We're honored to have Mike increase applications of our Particle Swarm Optimization and other technologies within the U.S. Department of Defense. Whether it's electronic warfare resources allocation, mission planning, munitions deposition or lives on the line, all of us at Phoenix are committed to helping our military increase its probability for success.”

Phoenix Data Corporation was selected a finalist in the 2013 TechPoint Mira Awards for Technology Excellence and Innovation, a 2013 Indiana Companies to Watch winner, a 2013 Top Emerging Business in America and a 2010 Top 50 Diversity-Owned Business in Indiana by DiversityBusiness.com, as well as the 2011 Technology Innovator of the Year in the 8th Annual International Stevie Awards for Women in Business.
