News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Indiana National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, is pleased to announce the selection of Lt. Col. Felicia Brokaw as the new Director of Logistics for Joint Force Headquarters of Indiana.

Lt. Col. Brokaw began her career by enlisting into the Indiana Army National Guard in May 1987. She then received her commission as a second lieutenant in May 1992 from the Indiana Military Academy Officer Candidate School. She’s served in the logistics field in many capacities and most recently as the surface maintenance division chief. Brokaw deployed to Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006 to 2007. Lt. Col. Brokaw has been awarded a Master of Science in management, a bachelor’s degree in computer technology and an associate degree in computer programming.

“I appreciate, and am humbled by, this wonderful opportunity,” said Brokaw. “This is a means to represent the logistics community at such a critical time as we transition into a resource constrained environment. This new position will certainly be demanding and I thank Maj. Gen. Umbarger for his confidence in me.”

The directorate's previous leader, Col. Richard Shatto, was recently selected as the post commander of Camp Atterbury.

Col. Shatto is a career engineer officer graduating from the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School in 1987. He is a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and a career full-time employee of the Indiana National Guard. Effective Dec. 1, 2013, Shatto assumed command of Camp Atterbury.

“The Directorate of Logistics Soldiers' morale, energy and professionalism are strong,” said Shatto. “The directorate’s level of success and excellence did not occur without the support and commitment of a broad group of folks, all with a great deal of talent. These great men and women, both military and civilian, will passionately support the next director with unwavering commitment, ensuring her continued success as a leader.”

“Logistics is critical to the success of the Indiana National Guard,” said Umbarger. “Col. Shatto served as the Director of Logistics (J4) with great honor. I look forward to Lt. Col. Brokaw serving as the J4, as I have the utmost confidence in her experience and abilities. She will be a great asset to our organization in this new capacity.”

The director of logistics oversees management of equipment, transportation, maintenance and facilities while seamlessly contributing to the overall readiness and preparedness of the Indiana Army National Guard.
