Purdue University says a new one-year MBA focusing on professionals in the science, technology, engineering and math fields will begin in June at its West Lafayette campus. The school says a weekend version of the STEMBA will get underway in 2015 in Chicago. November 25, 2013

News Release

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's Krannert School of Management will begin offering a one-year MBA for STEM Professionals program in June.

The full-time program will be held at Purdue's West Lafayette campus. It is targeted at individuals with backgrounds and work experience in the STEM disciplines – science, technology, engineering and math.

Krannert also intends to begin a weekend MBA program for STEM professionals in Chicago in 2015.

The MBA for STEM professionals is designed to help individuals with technical backgrounds transition into business leadership roles in technology-centered organizations.

“This program will provide students with a solid understanding of core business functions while focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Krannert Dean P. Christopher Earley.

The MBA for STEM Professionals is designed to provide engineers, scientists and technologists with the business and leadership skills required to start or lead technology-centered organizations.

After completing a rigorous business core, students will be able to customize their program through a variety of professional electives, some of which will be taught jointly by business and engineering, science or technology faculty.

Students also will participate in projects with leading and emerging technology organizations.

The program will involve elements found in traditional Krannert MBA programs, including leadership training, access to career services, opportunities to study abroad and participation in professional and social clubs with other graduate students.

“Krannert is uniquely positioned to provide this program because it is a business school integrated into one of the world's leading STEM-focused universities,” Earley said.

Ultimately, students who complete the MBA for STEM professionals will be poised to work on key global issues by combining their technical background with business and leadership skills.

Applications for the full-time class starting in June 2014 in West Lafayette are being accepted now.
