Another prominent employer has joined a coalition opposing a potential amendment to the state constitution that would ban same sex marriage. Freedom Indiana says Ball State University is now part of the effort to stop the proposal, which will be debated during the upcoming session of the General Assembly. Major employers including Eli Lilly in Indianapolis and Columbus-based Cummins are also part of the effort.

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Freedom Indiana campaign manager Megan Robertson issued the following statement welcoming Ball State University to the statewide coalition opposed to HJR-6, the proposed amendment to the Indiana Constitution that would eliminate protections for certain Hoosiers.

Ball State joins Indiana University, DePauw University, Wabash College and Hanover College in opposition to the amendment.

“The momentum we're building on this issue is incredible. As we head into Organization Day next week, we hope state lawmakers take notice that so many of Indiana's top institutions of higher education have joined together in opposition to this amendment.

“The Indiana Constitution should protect all Hoosiers, and it's not the place to have this debate. If we want to compete in this global economy, we cannot tell certain Hoosiers and would-be Hoosiers that they're not welcome here.

“We thank to Ball State for standing with us in this fight for Indiana's future.”

Freedom Indiana is a bipartisan statewide organization that champions liberty for all Hoosiers. It was formed in August 2013 to oppose an amendment to the Indiana Constitution that would permanently alter the state’s definition of marriage and potentially affect hundreds of protections related to marriage under current Indiana law.
